The NCC works diligently to clarify the role of competitiveness as a catalyst for efficiency and innovation in what has been to date a fortunate and relatively protected resource-based economy. While it is easy to understand that years of being the world’s undisputed top oil producer have naturally de-emphasized the perceived need for comparison to and competitiveness with other economies, the actual need continues to persist, especially as the KSA moves to diversify its economy and ensure a sustainable environment for generations to come.
